The optimal age for a photo shoot is 6-14 days of life. This is due to the fact that in the first 2 weeks of life, the newborn sleeps a lot and soundly, in addition all positions are as physiological as possible and are close to the position of the child in the mother’s tummy, they are familiar and natural to him. If for some reason you were unable to shoot at the recommended time, it can be done in 3-4 weeks. But in this case there are some restrictions in posing the child and there is a possibility that the shooting will be delayed, because... At this age, babies sleep more lightly.
I usually prepare from three to eight looks, which involve a complete change of props. And also one or two spares. Plan B is needed in case the props got dirty during shooting or in case the baby is fast asleep and time allows us to take a few more shots. All props are provided by the photographer, you just need to tell us about your preferences so that I can prepare everything you need for the shoot in advance. Mostly all shots are taken with the closed eyes when the baby is sleeping. This is due to the fact that the gaze of newborns is often unfocused and good shots of awake babies are not always obtained. In addition, the baby is relaxed in his sleep, which allows you to pose the baby and get such touching shots that you can find on this site. But there are exceptions: when kids look curiously at the camera and manage to capture a cool emotional shot.
I use white noise while shooting. It is believed that it reminds the child of the sounds that he heard while in his mother’s tummy. As a rule, white noise helps babies calm down faster, and the click of a camera shutter or an extraneous sound will not wake them up. The room warms up to 28-29 degrees. This temperature may seem high to an adult, but for a baby who is being changed and photographed naked, it is comfortable. Before the shooting begins, I prepare the shooting location, props, change clothes and sanitize my hands.
Of course, parents are concerned about safety. I am a mother myself and I understand this perfectly. And if in other genres of photography you can experiment, then in newborn photography you need to follow certain instructions in posing. That is why I studied with professionals with extensive experience. I always adapt to each child and use only those positions that are most comfortable for him. We take breaks for feeding and hygiene procedures when the baby needs it.
